Inside a residential hydronic HVAC setup
In a typical residential HVAC system, water transfers thermal energy from a heat source, such as a gas boiler or heat pump, to various areas of the home through a closed-loop network of pipes.
The distribution system manages the flow of water throughout the system. Circulators play a central role in moving the water consistently and efficiently, and multiple circulators may be used to maintain performance and balance in larger or more complex systems.
Terminal units and end-use applications support space heating, space cooling, domestic hot water production, and snow melting. Depending on the application, these may include emitters such as radiators, underfloor loops, or fan coils, as well as components such as indirect hot water tanks.
Once the thermal energy is transferred where needed, the water returns to the source for recirculation.
