Optimised ground water extraction
For borehole raw water extraction, municipalities require the highest levels of energy optimisation and resource sustainability, reflected in lower lifecycle costs. Over the years, Grundfos has pioneered numerous innovations that become and continuously influence new standards, and we have experience from a huge installed base of stainless steel borehole pumps and motors.
For example, Grundfos pioneered the implementation of variable speed in pumping operations, and it is innovations such as this that will enable your water supply infrastructure to meet future challenges and regulations.
90% energy efficiency with our new permanent magnet motors
Grundfos supplies the SPE system with a permanent magnet borehole motor and tailored CUE variable speed drive. A Grundfos PM motor ensures 90 % energy efficiency due to close-to-zero rotor losses. The CUE continuously adjusts the speed of the pump to any pumping need. All together The SPE system has proven reliability and longer lifetime keeping total life cycle costs down.
Discover the benefits of the new SPE system
See how years of experience with permanent magnet motors and profound application knowledge have resulted in an allstainless-steel pump with a number of built-in features.
Time for replacement – assess your pump before you start
Whether a borehole pump is 100, 200 or 500 feet underground, drawing it or inspection can be a costly affair. But by using our designated free tool, you can measure the efficiency of a borehole pump while it is still in the borehole. Low pump efficiency may mean it’s worth drawing, cleaning or replacing. Our SQ and SQE pumps are great replacement pumps when the time comes.
Grundfos’ range of CUE frequency drives are highly versatile and can be used for easy, efficient operation in all application areas. By connecting a CUE with a Grundfos SP borehole pump, you’ll bring advantages to yourself as well as your customers.

What is a cooling jacket and when should it be used for submersibles?
A cooling jacket, also referred to as a flow generator, ensures that there is always sufficient water flow across the motor surface in order to cool the motor.
In a typical well installation, the pump is surrounded by the walls of the well. The motor is installed below the pump. Because the pump draws in water from below, the water flows along the well walls and over the surface of the motor, cooling the motor in so doing.
If the pump is installed in open water, there will ...
What is the maximum sand content of pumped water for submersibles?
The maximum sand content of the water may not exceed 50 g/m³. A greater sand content reduces the service life of the pump and increases the risk of pump blockages.
